Visio Data Visualizer Dataset Generator – LITE (Free, 20 Steps)
Lite is the proof-of-workflow version. It exports the first 20 process steps from a real Visio diagram into a
Data Visualizer-ready dataset, so the round-trip can be validated quickly.
First 20 steps
Windows
Runs locally
Best fit: cross-functional flowcharts
Lite runs locally on Windows. Your diagram and dataset stay on your machine unless you choose to share them.
What Lite does
Lite is designed to answer one question quickly: will the dataset and import loop work on a real file?
- Input: a Visio .vsdx diagram (best fit: cross-functional flowchart)
- Output: a strict dataset table (Excel/TSV-friendly) for the first 20 steps
- Purpose: validate the workflow before converting full diagrams
How to use Lite (step-by-step)
- Download Lite (this product page or the email delivery page).
- Unzip the download and run the Windows executable.
- Select a real .vsdx file.
- Export the dataset (Lite exports the first 20 steps).
- Import the dataset into Visio Cross-Functional Flowchart (Data Visualizer) to regenerate a linked diagram.
If Visio shows an import error, treat it as dataset validation:
import troubleshooting.
What to check after export
These checks prevent almost all import failures and “scrambled layout” outcomes:
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Process Step IDs are unique | Duplicate IDs break the model. |
| Every Next Step ID exists | Broken references create missing connectors and missing steps. |
| Branching is stored correctly | Multiple next steps belong in one cell as comma-separated IDs (no spaces). |
| Function values are consistent | Lane drift creates lane sprawl and confusing diagrams. |
| No blank TSV rows | Blank rows frequently break imports. |
Templates and examples:

dataset examples.
Lite vs Standard
| Feature | Lite | Standard |

FAQ
Is Lite really free?
Yes. Lite is free and is designed to validate the workflow on a real file.
What does “20 steps” mean?
Lite exports the first 20 process steps found in the diagram. It is enough to validate IDs, links, lanes, and the import loop.
Does Lite upload files anywhere?
No. Lite runs locally on Windows. Files stay on your machine unless you choose to share them.
What should be done if Visio shows an import error?
Most failures are dataset integrity issues. Start with:
import troubleshooting and
dataset format.
